Hardly any other era produced as many sacred buildings as the era between 1860 and 1920.
Only few of these buildings in the style of Historism, Art Nouveau or traditional local style (Heimatstil) get
the attention they deserve.
The small church documentation office (KIDOK) of our parish in Berlin honours these sacred buildings by
including them on our website, but explicitly without academic detail. Here we show a selection of sacred
buildings in Germany and other parts of the world. You can also find out interesting facts and news about
our office.
The selection of churches, synagogues and mosques was made depending on available staff in our office as well
as depending on publishable photographs. This selection is not representative of the architectural era as
a whole, however the authors have tried to present a variety of styles from the time between 1860 and 1920
and to include sacred buildings from all over the world. You will find more detailed information about
architectural styles under "architecture style".
If you know sacred buildings that belong on this website or have ideas for further development of our website,
please let us know.
Please use our contact address to send your photographs (inside and outside shots) preferably with the
permission for us to publish them as well as short descriptions of the buildings (ie. date of building,
design architect, etc.) and if the building meets our standards it can be included on our website.
The result pages are in German. Not all pages are available in English
